Open Enrollment & Pre-Registration

BEFORE CONTINUING please confirm your address at the District's School Finder website.  Click on the 'Enrollment' link above in the blue bar to see current information.

  • Pre-Registration for the next school year starts during the Spring of the current school year and ends on the Wednesday that occurs the same week as the last day of school.  Pre-Registration continues starting on Tuesday, two weeks prior to the first day of the school year and ends the first day of school.
  • Open Enrollment starts the first day of school and continues throughout the school year.  Enrollment is always open to students within our neighborhood boundaries except UTK.  Please see the Enrollment tab for UTK enrollment information.
  • School tours occur in the fall and spring.  Please email our clerk at [email protected] with the first and last name of each adult who will attend the tour, their email plus phone number to RSVP.
  • Neighborhood or Choice students enrolled at Sunset View at the end of the current school year automatically continue with us the next year and subsequent years with no need to submit new documents except for some UTK students and others who enrolled with special circumstances.  Please contact us at [email protected] or 858-988-2000 if you have questions about your next school year enrollment.  See the Choice information below for additional information.
  • SDUSD strongly urges parents to ensure their child is fully potty-trained before attending UTK.  Kinders must be potty trained for school.  Please read the Potty Training Guide  and if you have questions about your child's potty training status, please discuss this with the classroom teacher at the start of the school year.
  • Please click this Next-Year Readiness link for skill information in Reading, Writing and Math which are useful for establishing a solid foundation for incoming Kinder through 4th graders.  Kinder Readiness also includes information on Social/Emotional, Self Help and Motor Skills.

Enrolling when Sunset View is not your neighborhood school

The Choice program allows families to enroll in a school outside of their neighborhood boundaries.  The Choice "window" opens each year in the fall for parents to apply for the following school year.  If you missed the Choice Window you can still apply with the Neighborhood Schools & Enrollment Options office and be placed on a waitlist.  Choice enrollment is not guaranteed and depends on various circumstances and enrollment availability.  Please click the Choice Enrollment Guide for additional information.  Children accepted into the Choice program will need their own transportation in place, none is available through the school district.

AFTER THE FALL CHOICE WINDOW CLOSES, please contact Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options about enrolling in a non-neighborhood school.  You can submit a Choice enrollment request at anytime.

For Enrollment and Waitlist questions for the Point Loma Cluster please contact Erika Ootgiese [email protected] at Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options (NSEO) 4100 Normal St, Annex 12 (619) 260-2410, Ext. 2433. The schools do not have information about a child's location on the NSEO waitlist.
